Operating at the End of Lever: Part 3
Part 3 takes you into some of the more powerful levers --the levers of posture
Hey there, hope you’ve been enjoying this series.
One of my training focuses in the weeks leading up to this first email was understanding leverage much better.
In truth, we all think we understand leverage but in practice, we tend to place more emphasis on movement that’s “good enough” instead of precision.
Precision is hard. Especially as intensity starts to ramp up. It’s incredibly challenging to make sure your hands, feet, body, head, etc., are placed in the perfect position in a live match. It’s good to practice though because if you can find the most optimal part of the lever to apply pressure, you’re going to be well on your way to making your jiu-jitsu much less effortless.
With that said, this series was inspired by my own personal training and trying to identify this precision. My goal has been to slow movements down (mentally and physically) so that I can apply force at the best possible points on my training partners’ body.
This whole video series has attempted to do just that (If you missed the last two emails, you can check levers of the arms and legs here).
Now we move into levers of the posture. These are huge because they’re going to control your opponent’s ability to rotate as well as maintain structural integrity. If you can control these, the rest becomes much easier.
Let’s dive in!
