Optimizing the Use of Levers
Hey everyone. Ricardo here!
This week I want to talk about leverage. Leverage is what makes the world go round in jiu-jitsu (and in many parts of life). Leverage is what allows us the opportunity to achieve a huge result with little relative input. In other words, leverage is what allows us to optimize for efficiency.
Many of the problems students have is understanding how to use levers. While it’s easy to understand levers, it’s not so easy to apply them against a resisting opponent.
Further, if you don’t understand where to apply levers, you’re going to be largely inefficient and ineffective.
One of my training focuses for the past two weeks has been optimizing my use of levers. I’ve slowed down many of my training sessions to identify exactly where the levers are and the best position to apply them. It’s incredible how small details such as moving your hands up or down an arm even as much as an inch can have such powerful effects.
In today’s email (the first of a mini-series), I’m going to show you how to use levers more effectively. It’s a simple trick by understanding bone structure as well as where the weakest part of the bone is when it comes to movement.
What you’ll get is over 12 minutes of content focused primarily on levers of the arms where I’ll begin by explaining where most people fail (the armbar) and then go into how to use the appropriate levers for the underhook from a couple of different positions.
I’ll also talk about limb isolation using these levers.
Last as a bonus, I’ll show you how to have an unstoppable wristlock just by understanding where to place your hand.
Let’s dive in!
