Understanding Inside Control from Standing and Guard

In today’s email, we’re going to talk about an incredibly important, yet grossly underrated component to training. We’re going to talk about maintaining the inside control.
This is a concept I talk about often with my students. In each and every technique I demonstrate, whenever it’s applicable I talk about inside control and how important it is to maintain it. What happens, however, is that in practice, in the heat of the moment, less advanced (and even some advanced students) miss out on maintaining the inside control and end up getting taken down, passed or even swept.
The upcoming videos are going to show you how to get and maintain the inside control from standing as well as from the guard position.
The goal here is to show you that one you get the inside control, you’ll need to use it immediately to attack. And, in contrast, if you don’t have the inside control, you need to get it back before you continue.
