The Dynamics of Escaping Mount
Hey there! Hope you’re crushing your training week!
Today I want to talk about escaping from a dynamic perspective.
In the last month or two, I let out a video series on attacks. The video series focused primarily on the principles of attacking. In that series, I talked about the dynamics of attacking. In other words, most of your attacks will happen in transition (dynamically) and if you’re trying to set everything up statically (with no resistance), you’re sure to fail.
Well, the same idea applies to escapes.
One of the biggest mistakes people make with their escapes is thinking about the escapes statically.
The obvious problem is that very rarely is jiu-jitsu static. Nobody just waits there for you to set things up.
Therefore, you’ll encounter various levels of resistance while you apply techniques.
In the first video, I’ll show you how to look at mount escapes (focusing on 3 of the most popular) in terms of setting them up dynamically.
The second video will show you some important things to consider regarding where the vulnerabilities are.
See, this is the beautiful thing about jiu-jitsu. There’s no such thing as a “perfect” position. There’s always a vulnerability somewhere. Your job is to exploit it. We’ll explore those vulnerabilities in the mount position here!
Let’s dive in!
