[September Training Journal] The Best Month I've had in a While
[Note: At the end of this post I’ll have some plans for future content laid out for y’all! You may have noticed quite a bit of “Jiujitsu Made Simple” posts in recent months and it’s my plan to put it all together into a big Course (obviously free for subscribers). Stay tuned for more details]
This has actually been one of the better training months I can recall despite getting hit with some unbelievable boredom this past week (more on that in a bit).
I had a plan and I stuck to it. I had some minor injuries that are almost resolved and I’ve felt a difference in my spider guard game since that’s been a huge focus. Strength-wise too, I’ve also hit some of my long-time “milestone” goals.
The focus coming into this month was spider guard. I had a plan of working from the ground up: Focus on building the base (connection and retention) and now I think I’ve figured it out enough to move onto the next state: Off-balancing and attacking.
I did run into a few snags that I’ll have to troubleshoot, namely 1) pulling directly into the spider guard felt awkward and 2) having problems with my 260lb brown belt.
The other big issue I’m having right now is NoGi training. Aside from wrestling practice on Wednesdays, I have not trained a single lick of NoGi this last month.
Mentally, I’ve been feeling stuck (the problem of being in a routine) but physically, I’m just pushing through (the positives of being in a routine). It’s easy to get over humps when you take a systematic approach to training but sometimes it can put you further into hole if you’re not seeing any progress.
Let’s just dive right into it and see if my plan for next month helps me experience some breakthroughs OR digs my mental hole deeper!
