Level Up your Closed Guard
Here are some easy and quick tips you can use to make your closed guard more dangerous
Hey there, hope you had an incredible holiday weekend.
Today’s videos are going to be all about the closed guard.
In my eyes, the closed guard is probably the most important guard for beginners. The reason is, it’s a guard where you can control the most variables because of the amount of connection you have to your opponent.
Most, if not all other guards do not have as much connection. As such, with less connection, your opponent will be able to move more.
There are a LOT of little tips and tricks you can use in the closed guard to both maintain it from the bottom as well as maintain your composure and escape more easily from the top —And this video is chock FULL of them.
In this email you’ll find two videos:
Closed guard from the bottom
This video will talk about the various ways you can keep your closed guard closed so that you can attack, off-balance and transition more effectively.
In this video, I’ll teach you some tricks on how to use your hips to stifle the top player as well as learn how to off-balance your opponent more effectively. These tricks will make your attacks MUCH more effective.
Closed Guard from the Top
This is a position I absolutely HATE being in. As a matter of fact, if you’re passing the guard, you should make it your mission to NEVER get put in your opponent’s closed guard. Even if you’re throwing punches, it’s not optimal for the “connection” reasons I mentioned above.
Now, this video won’t go into avoiding the closed guard but it will show some basics on maintaining your balance as well as how to use your feet and hips from the top position to help you understand how to get out more effectively.
I’ll also show you some basics of elbow positioning so you’re not going to get caught in attacks while you try to escape.
