There are a few things in jiu-jitsu/grappling that will make life so much easier and one of those things is underhooks.
That’s right.
We’re nearing the tail end of the underhooks discussion and I’ve been emailing you all about how important underhooks are for your effectiveness and efficiency in jiu-jitsu.
To recap:
Underhooks allow you incredible control of the inside position
Underhooks are an amazing way to keep a supine opponent flat on their back (by removing the ability to rotate inward).
Underhooks can lead to a variety of submission attempts
Defending underhooks will exponentially improve your ability to defend positions, retain your guard AND make your escapes more effortless.
The emails I’ve sent over the last few weeks have gone into underhooks from the standing, top and bottom positions and I’ve covered some offensive and defensive aspects of the underhook as a “position”. In other words, my goal was to create a system of understanding underhooks as a positional idea and not simply a single step in a technical procedure.
With that said, now it’s time to put it all together in a sparring video for you down below!
Hope you enjoy!
